NEW STUDENT / Overwhelming

U.S.A. Ohio

Hi ! I am a first quarter student in the nursing program. Can I just ask point blank. Does every first quarter student feel like they have been run over by the information overload truck? I am happy and excited and overwhelmed to say the least. Anatomy/Phys has my head spinning, I'm studying every day, but, feel like it will never "gel". Is that typical? Any advice please, I would be grateful for tips, suggestions.

Thanks for your time!

BREATHE....BREATHE...A&P was harder than my 1st two RN classes. Did you have to get your STNA for the program that you were in? 1st qtr (FOR ME) its like being

a STNA with meds. Again I said FOR ME. I had been a tech on a high acurity level floor. 1st qtr we did alot of bed baths/am care/ vital signs.Take time learning your skills...assess anyone you know for practice. It doesn't seem like you will know what doesn't sound right but you will get it. I am at the end of my RN program (last qtr) and for the first time I heard heart tones/sounds in the belly, because it is usually a bad sign (AAA). I would start now trying to learn your medication classes for example your lol(s) {metaprolol}are beta blockers. Since you said qtrs I

assume that you in a 7qtr program.

You will meet some really great people so enjoy yourself! GOOD LUCK!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It's amazing I love it, but, it's the hardest thing I've ever done. I have a business degree prior, (that was nothing compared to this) lol. I am praying my brain will soak it all in and "learn to apply" the knowledge. I am one of the "mature" students in the class , lol. late 40's ! So, it's a challenge but I am staying diligent and getting tutoring now just to keep me on pace. I do have my STNA but am not working now because this program is accelerated 2.5 years. I'm broke, but happy. I want to devote all my energy to this . Any advice on grasping A and P, or just plain advice, lol. from anyone is welcome. :)

LOL. I had the luck of having a wonderful teacher for A&P. It was alot of memorization. I am also not a young chicken but sometimes it works to our advantage. I will say again remember to BREATHE. Find something that you enjoy and take mini breaks to work off the stress. I have about 30 days left until this chapter of my life is over...preparing for the NCLEX will become my focus. Another thing I do everyday is pray. Good Luck again if you have any questions just ask.
