Hi, I am an LPN. I live on border of NW PA and NE OH. I have been on a 4 yr. hiatus d/t health issues. I have been looking for a per diem or PT job. But, it's not looking so good. I have been searching since Feb. I just can't find the right PT job. Funny, when I wanted a FT job, there were only per-diem jobs. Now, that I need a PT job, I can't find one. Lack of experience is the big factor here. I only have experience in behavioral health. And, only have 5 1/2 yrs. experience with that. I was even going to apply for agency job, but backed out. I got scared when I heard how they just feed you to the wolves and only care if you have pulse and license. I have license in OH and PA.

I am just afraid to attempt job at FT. I have been on disability on for past 4 yrs. and wanted to start out slow going back to work. My plan was to step up to FT in about 6 mos. to a yr. I may have to resort to "attempting" the FT jobs, or just forget about nursing field.

My fantasy would be to find a nursing job that would actually train me for job, and only be PT. Anyone know of any of these jobs, possibly? I would feel like I hit the lottery, if I could find what I am looking for.

You may want to consider a nursing refresher course. That would look good to employers and get you up to speed with the changes that have occured in the last 4 years. As for part time employment, I'm sure you will find a position eventually. Many places will let you work part time, but require you to orient full time. Keep looking and try to explore all your avenues. Good luck!

Thanks. Yes, I am looking into refresher course. I am finding out that is the route that I should take. And, there is a chance that my disability insurance will pay for my course. I would be an absolute fool to pass up on education. I see where there is a self-study LPN refresher course. Courses are done independently, but tests are taken in community with a proctor. Also, I started looking into some local hospitals that would accept me to do clinicals at hospital. I am just waiting for some call backs.
