HELLO ALL!!!!! So I have a question for Mother-Baby nurses. I have 1.5 years of experience in Postpartum. I may be getting a job in Mother-Baby VERY SOON. Just wanted to know what your job is like as a Mother-Baby nurse. What should I expect to do as a Mother-Baby nurse? I got the "Mother" part down:lol2:, and I do remember being in and out of my patients' rooms assisting them with infant care, but I just need to know what to expect as a full fledged Mother-Baby nurse. Thank you!!!!!:nurse:

I am wondering the same thing so I hope someone replies! I start on the 30th as a mother/baby nurse I am sooo excited! Good luck to you.

Congrats Myrn!!! Good luck to you!

Specializes in labor & delivery.

Expect to do newborn assessments, first baths, weights, infant labs such as newborn screens, bilirubin, glucose, etc. as needed, help with breast feeding and education. We also help with circumcisions. In our facility, we also rotate through the well-baby nursery taking care of respite newborns and admitted infants for issues such as jaundice. We usually have 4 couplets each. Know what is normal for a newborn and what is not. Good luck!!

Congrats this is where I want to be!!!!
