This week I had a baby born that was a female, but there was a small stub that looked like the head of a member where the privy parts normally is. She obviously had a lady parts and everything else looked normal. The pedi is going to have her be seen by a perinatologist for further testing. It just looked so different from what we usually see.
OMG! I thought it was just us, but we have been having a really bad year. We very nearly lost a mom (but didn't thank god, she did amazingly well) to an amniotic fluid embolism that caused DIC, was in surgery for like 8 hours and used all the blood in the hospital; we had a mom roll over on her baby when she fell asleep nursing, our nurse found the baby blue, it was recusitated but then was later taken off the vent and died, we had another baby that was brought back into the ER at 6 weeks of age with severe injuries consistent with abuse that also died. Did I mention we only do 20 births a month?

Does it seem to anyone else that there are many weird, bad things happening lately or is it just Central Arkansas?
I know personally of 4 maternal deaths in the last month in this area, different hospitals. In the last 6 months, many babies who shouln't have died: 2 on the perineum, 1 36-weeker, etc.
Any thoughts???
