This was in this morning's paper. I'm sharing it because I thought the wording was quaint.

We have a sizable Amish population locally and they usually go to a local midwife to be delivered. The men are totally uninvolved in the births and baby care after.

"A baby boy Levi was born in a completely unplanned home birth on December 4, 2013, at

8:52 pm to ___ and ___ ___ of ____ Road. Levi weighed 9# 10 oz. and was 21" long. His maternal grandparents are___ and ___ ___ and the paternal grandparents are ___ and ___

___. Levi, who was caught by his earthly father when he was born, was welcomed into his mortal family by his brothers Kaleb, Benjamin, Zachary, and Little John and his sister Lizzie."

Also unusual by "English" standards: Both sets of grandparents had the same surname but were totally unrelated. Not uncommon. It would be like a Smith or a Jones marrying another unrelated Smith or Jones..

There have been several threads listing odd or strange baby names on allnurses.com. The announcement is quite different from the usual Amish birth announcement and I just thought I'd share it.

Very different from ... "A son Levi was born to __ and ___ ___ etc." which is like our (English or what the old order Amish call the non-Amish) birth announcements.
