fentanyl vs duramorph

Specialties Ob/Gyn

For all of you that don't know me, I am a new grad.

I was wondering if any of you have had good experience with fentanyl when used in a spinal prep for a c/s? What kind of post op pain relief did you patients get and for how long. The hospital I am at right now has always used duramorph in combination for a spinal and it maintains a 12-18 hour pain relief post op, however there is a high incidence with itching, nausea and vomiting. However one particular anesthesiologist is trying the fentanyl.

So if any of you have any info on this please post your opinions, good or bad, I am curious

Thanks ! :)

it does not work NEARLY as well as post-op pain relief in spinal anesthesia. At least the is my experience. But it IS used for those with allergies to morphine/duramorph.

the times i have seen it used fentanyl worked very well and with out all that dang itching:)
