Blood sugar guidelines for neonates

What are your guidelines for hypoglycemia in newborns? I am at a new facility and the neonatologist is insisting that after day 2, the blood sugar needs to be between 60 and 70. The policy is above 50 first day of life. In my old facility, the policy was above 40 first day of life and then above 50 after that. This physician says that the current evidence says the blood sugar has to be above 60 and that the Academy of Pediatrics and breastfeeding medicine has it wrong. What is your practice and is there new evidence to support a BS over 60? I'm getting frustrated when trying to support my breastfeeding families.

My baby was born at 37 weeks 4 days, weighing in at an impressive 8# 6 oz, and his BS was checked frequently his first 24 hours then d/c. Is that normal? The nurse said it was because of his size. My first baby was 7# 3 oz and they never checked his (born 38 weeks 3 days). Just curious. Big baby's BS was always normal and he ate normally too, and I was not gestational diabetic with either one.

I can't speak to your specific situation but sometimes if we get a baby that weighs significantly more than expected (in other words, LGA) we suspect GDM that had a later onset and wasn't picked up at the traditional 28-week check.
