Bleeding During 1st Trimester

Hey guys. I have a question for you all. I just found out about a week ago that my husband and I are expecting our second child. My first pregnancy could not have been easier, this one however is different. I started very, very light spotting on Sunday morning and it has not stopped yet. My hormone levels are more than doubling, so my OBGYN is not too worried. Have any of you had any experience with this? There is some mild cramping, but I know that can happen as you grow to accomodate baby.

I am going to have an ultrasound tomorrow. But am really needing some advice now. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! How excited you must be! I'm sorry you already have something to worry about, but it sounds to me like your doctor is doing the right thing. With my second baby, I started bleeding almost as soon as I found out I was pregnant. Because of the bleeding, and because I had a history of a tubal pregnancy, my doctor did an ultrasound as early as possible (about 5-1/2 weeks.) There was no sight more beautiful than that tiny beating heart! I also had progesterone and beta-hcg levels done weekly throughout the first trimester. My hcg's were fine, which was reassuring, but my progesterone levels were initially low. I began using suppositories tid, which corrected the hormone deficiency, but the bleeding continued anyway. Despite testing, we never did find an explanation for it. It stopped at the end of the first trimester and was never a problem again.

The only other suggestion I can make is to inquire about early Rhogam if you are Rh negative.

Try to relax, although I know you won't. None of us do until we hold that baby for the first time, and then it's on to a whole new set of worries!

Update!! I went to the doctors on Thursday and had an untrasound.....I got to see a healthy, happy little heart beat! The doctor says that I am now around 6 weeks pregnant. He is attributing my bleeding to maybe what he called losing a gestational twin. He said he can see no other reason for me to spot.

I was soooo happy to see that little heart beat! Talk about a great Christmas present.

I , too, bled during the first trimester of my second pregnancy. I had driven over 12 hours (from Memphis to Jax, Fla.) in order to meet a deadline for signing for Navy housing. I began spotting soon after my arrival in Jax. and sought medical care at a local hospital that did not have maternity services. I was seen in the ER. The doctor did an intralady partsl ultrasound and apparently believed that my pregnancy was terminating. I am happy to report that he was wrong about this one. I did see my OB doc once I returned to Memphis and I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, most likely caused from driving so long without many potty breaks. (I was tryin' to meet that darn deadline!) I had a beautiful baby boy (he weighed in at 10lbs. 9oz!!) a few months later. I pray you have nothing to worry about and I hope to congratulate you on the birth of your baby in a few months. Take care, mommy.
