alright, here is the deal. we are going to be starting our oncology theory soon. our assignment is to make a powerpoint about a cancer symptom. the one i was signed up to do is "seizures". i have my definition and interventions listed on my powerpoint already. i am having difficulty with coming up with outcomes.

here is what i have for interventions:

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]loosen clothing around the neck

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]turn patient on their side

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]do not force anything into the mouth

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]if prescribed and available, administer oxygen by mask

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]teach family members or significant others how to care for the patient during a seizure

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]teach about medications

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]encourage medication compliance

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]provide support by explaining that concerns are normal

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]help patient identify safe leisure activities

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]provide information about sources and support groups if necessary

[color=#ff3300]provide accurate information about hiring practices and legal limitations on driving or operating heavy or dangerous machinery.

[color=#ff3300]for the outcomes it says: " outcomes-how arey ou going to evaluate your interventions?"

[color=#ff3300]i think i'm just kind of confused on examples of what they would want me to put on this slide of my powerpoint.

[color=#ff3300]if there are website sources please let me know if you found examples!

expected outcomes is what you expect to happen as a result of your interventions. you want to tie your expected outcomes to tie in with your interventions. so if your first couple of interventions are:

[color=#ff3300]loosen clothing around the neck and [color=#ff3300]turn patient on their side

[color=#ff3300]

your expected outcome may be: patient remains safe from harm by minimizing potential for choking.

[color=#ff3300]

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]teach family members or significant others how to care for the patient during a seizure - your expected outcome here would be that patient and family members learn what to expect and how to respond to seizures.

[color=#ff3300][color=#ff3300]teach about medications - your expected outcome here might be that the patient and/or family understand the name, purpose, dosage, and adverse reactions to medications.

and so on... these are just examples, you should do your own research and think critically about what you expect to achieve with your outlined interventions. there are websites out there, just google nursing interventions and outcomes.

best of luck... janet... this does get easier when you are actually implementing the plan of care.
