Nursing Students Student Assist

So when I will be taking Med Surg, I would like input on how you prepared for the class. I bought review and rational books from Amazon and practice NCLEX medical surgical nursing questions.

What were a few things you wished you knew before taking the class and regretted knowing later. How did you construct your study time? What about clinicals... anything surprising that you learned?

I appreciate your feedback :D

What does the nurse need to know when it comes to treating/taking care of the patient with certain diseases or diagnosis????

Sure - you will know what the diseases ARE, but what does the nurse need to do, watch for, and keep in mind while caring for the patient???

Make sure to study that! Don't over study what the actual diagnosis is :) made that mistake on my first test.

Specializes in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

I think I was still too hung up on the pathology of the illnesses we were presented and kept glossing over nursing management of the illness. Focus on nursing management. Keep in mind that when you see a pt presenting with certain S&S, what can you do to intervene? Think nursing process. For some reason, it didn't really click that this was the way things went with med surg until my 2nd qtr. I didn't struggle by any means but I don't think I got out of it everything I could the 1st go around. Good thing 2nd qtr was a complete rehash of the 1st qtr.
