Nursing Students Student Assist

please help

i have a case study and i a question says how would i plan, prioritise, and implement nursing interventions for this scenario!

"melissa, 16 says her father has always criticised her and never gives her any praise. she feels like a loner at school but admits she often picks fights with other students and gets angry if anyone hassles her. she has a reputation for being 'strange' and likes to argue the point with just about anybody in a position of authority. she says she likes to look and act 'different'. she also says " i've started getting a razor and cutting into my arm. i ring up my friend and we talk about doing it. she does it too. we talk about how to do it. i know i can control it though..........."

im confused tho because i thought nursing implications were made to stop the effects from the signs and symptoms! what interventions would i put in place for melissa and how would i plan and prioritise this?

i have an oral presentation due tomorrow and i dont understand :crying2:

any help would be great

thanks

This is a psych case and psych is not my field of experience. You are right about treating the signs and symptoms, but I can't give you specific help because it's not my field of experience. The best advice I can offer is to consult a book of psychiatric disorders on anger and self-inflicting injuries to find specific interventions.

Do you have a nursing dx book? Look up the care plans for "Risk for self-directed violence" and "risk for suicide." Those should always be your priorities for psych patients (assuming the ABCs are stable and she isn't bleeding out from her injuries). I haven't had to do an assignment quite like this, ours are all on actual patients, but we just finished psych and that's how I'd go about it. Good luck!
