nursing student need info from RN regarding lab experience

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hello

I hope it is ok for me to ask you this question/problem in this forum. I am new to this website/forum. I am a first semester RN student in MO working on my 2nd degree. My first degree is in Health Education/Comm. Health. I want to combine my Health Ed degree with nursing degree to become nurse educator.

Anyway what i wanted to ask is it unusual for a first semester nursing student not to do well in first return demo of a procedure. I didn't pass the demo and the instructor lost her cool and yelled at me in front of others and i was humuliated. I felt so bad that i ended up dropping fundamentals. Part of my problem may be my lack of healthcare experience. I am currently looking for job (pt) in healthcare but haven't been able to find one, despite many openings in St. Louis area for nursing students. I would appreciate some advice. Most of my work background is in clerical and very limited healthcare experience/Medical records. Thank you very much......

:balloons: Hello and Welcome to Allnurses.com:balloons:

I am sorry you were humiliated in class. That is not the way an instructor should act.

It is not unusual to do poorly or just not do as well as expected on the return demonstration. I remember mine. I just bombed it.

I wish you had not dropped the course. You are still in nursing, yes?

How about a CNA course, if you want to work in healthcare while pursuing your degree/diploma?

Good luck.

I agree that this is not the way but let me tell you --it is the way in many nursing programs

"Off with the Head" is commonly the term I hear so many say...It must be that they are trying to wed out the weak, not guide the willing. In order to succeed you must first believe in yourself, believe you can and then you will...do not let them get you down, instead get them back---get smarter----bounce back with a smile and more ability....take each test that they present with self-confidence and belief in you, then it will come naturally---so many of my fellowstudents were afraid of losing their heads, but most of us left with them intact...got humbled many times, but so what!!!Always remember to smile under pressure, it makes that person so angry--off with the head--I did not say to laugh, but maintain your humor and your sense of pride and you will make it....I talked to God alot, it felt good and no one could take him away..Again Good Luck, and having experience will help, but they will still try to chop your head off!!!
