No H2O to patients with NG tube??

    Hi all!

I hope you are having a nice weekend!

I read this in my med-surg book, at least I *think* I did... and I don't have it on me right now or I would check it but... is it true that you don't allow patients with a NG tube to drink water because it will cause a diffusion of electrolytes into the stomach that will then be suctioned away?? Can someone elaborate as well? thank you in advance!!!

    Best,
    Parisa

The answer to your question is no
