Hi all!

I hope you are having a nice weekend! :D

I read this in my med-surg book, at least I *think* I did... and I don't have it on me right now or I would check it but... is it true that you don't allow patients with a NG tube to drink water because it will cause a diffusion of electrolytes into the stomach that will then be suctioned away?? Can someone elaborate as well? thank you in advance!!! :yeah:

Best,

If your patient is able to drink water on their own, why do they have an NG tube?

[edit] Furthermore, if you're pumping the patient's stomach why would they be ingesting any liquids?

The answer to your question is no
