Need help with psychosocial NANDA!!!

I am in first semester RN program. What is the name of psychosocial NANDA for a patient after having penile prosthesis implantation? I was thinking about the name "Hope, readiness for enhance". I don't think it's the right one but I can't come up with any better....

Are you only looking for psychocsocial aspects of the surgery?

My thoughts:

Personal Identity disturbance

or

Sexual Patterns altered

- Disturbed personal identity: person experiences or is at risk of experiencing an inability to distinguish between self and non-self

- For the "Altered sexual pattern": I'm still thinking about this. Would it be different between middle age person and elderly person? And a man who wants to do it versus the other who have to go through surgery for future sex life?

- By the way, would it be appropriate to mention some details of my patient's case up here or everything has to be in general question??? I'm concerned. Thanks!!!

diagnosing is the result of logical problem determination. you must systematically break down information you obtain from the patient's medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests and reassemble it into patterns that fit well-defined groupings of symptoms that describe nursing diagnoses. you use your knowledge of the person's diseases and their treatment, the nursing process and a nursing diagnosis reference to help you.

i don't see where you have done any psychosocial assessment of this patient since no signs or symptoms (evidence) of any psychosocial problem seems to exist. even the police don't call something a murder if the evidence doesn't exist that it is murder. penile prosthesis implantation is a medical diagnosis. unless this patient has made statements that indicate that he has a self-esteem, body image or acceptance problem as a result of his erectile or sexual dysfunction, what is wrong with using a safer diagnosis such as deficient knowledge, penile prosthesis r/t lack of information or one of the wellness diagnoses if the patient is more adjusted such as readiness for enhanced knowledge r/t desire to learn aeb verbalized statements by patient of interest in learning how to use his new prosthetic device?

i caution students to be very careful about using the psychosocial diagnoses because (1) they require a knowledge of how to assess for these psych disorders, and (2) once assessed, psych interventions need to be employed and if you don't know where to find these then it's not worth it to even bother with these diagnoses. the result: the use of psychosocial diagnoses often end up being a disaster on student care plans. don't use a nursing diagnosis you don't know anything about and don't know where to go to get information about them. have evidence that a problem exists before making one up.

  • assessment (collect data from medical record, do a physical assessment of the patient, assess adl's, look up information about your patient's medical diseases/conditions to learn about the signs and symptoms and pathophysiology)
    • a physical assessment of the patient
    • assessment of the patient's ability and any assistance they need to accomplish their adls (activities of daily living) with the disease
    • data collected from the medical record (information in the doctor's history and physical, information in the doctor's progress notes, test result information, notes by ancillary healthcare providers such as physical therapists and dietitians
    • knowing the pathophysiology, signs/symptoms, usual tests ordered, and medical treatment for the medical disease or condition that the patient has. this includes knowing about any medical procedures that have been performed on the patient, their expected consequences during the healing phase, and potential complications. if this information is not known, then you need to research and find it.
