Hi there

I am doing an essay regarding a quadraplegic man with pressure sores. I am trying to find some information about nurses visiting patients in their home and any info about giving respect for clients home. I know Ethics and Professional standards come into it, however is there any other clues or keywords that you can assist me with to advance my search on databases or online. I have searched and searched but no info containing giving the respect for clients home surroundings.

Here in the U.S. most states have laws pertaining to "patient's rights". Most hospitals have a statement of Patient's Rights posted very conspicuously in key places of their facilities. Some even have patients sign a form stating that they received a copy of them. I would imagine that these rights are pretty similar throughout the U.S. It's only a stretch to carry them over to the patient's home environment. You should be able to access a list by doing a search for "Patient Rights". I've always thought that it is sad that law had to be enacted to get people to behave ethically.

Hello there,

I am a senior nursing student who just finished up my semester of Psychosocial nursing with Home Health Nursing. The question she states is "respect for the client's home"... the other responses seem great... but I just wanted to say that maybe its not as complicated as it seems... My nursing instructor reminded us of basic things you do to show respect in someone's home... they are common sense and things you would do in any person's home such as:

1) knock, dont just walk in

2) be polite, say thank you, please

3) put things back where you found them

4) ask before using something

5) wipe your feet before walking in

6) show respect and acceptance for the way they live regardless of finances, cleanliness, etc.

Maybe that is what your instructor is looking for... If it were my instructor, I know that is what she would be looking for.
