DNR - need help

Nursing Students Student Assist

I am going to do a presentation regarding DNR and the nursing responsibilities regarding that.

I was hoping someone could direct me to a website stating what my responsibility as a nurse would be. ie - if i see DNR written somewhere in the chart do I actually need to witness the actual document for it to be valid. If the document is not there, does that mean the DNR is not to be followed? What if there is a DNR order and it is missed and CPR ensues, is the nurse responsible?

I imagine they vary a bit by state, but I am in california.

thank you if anyone has any info.

You're right that the specific details of DNR vary from state to state. You might look on the website of the California BRN. Most states have a copy of their Nurse Practice Act or other procedures available right on the website.
