OK, so I can't seem to find a job as a CNA. I am male and I have applied in some places, I was interviewed at least 6 times and still no luck. I did this very late.. I graduated a year ago and took the CNA state exams last year as well. My license expires in a year, so I really need a job as a CNA or I will have to retake the course. I am about to give up and just not work as a CNA. What a waste.. My main major is nursing so is it really necessary to work as a CNA to become a nurse? I dunno what to do.. I should keep trying and trying I guess. Does anyone know how long I need to work as a CNA t onot retake the course again? =\ So upset.. that's all I need... while going studying for nursing. I got my driver license a while ago, and all that which i am happy. Now I really wanna work as a CNA then I will be all set.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to find a job. Have you tried various places not just hospitals? A lot of people are having difficulty in finding jobs so you're not alone.

You don't have to be a CNA though to become a nurse, however it does give you a better idea of what nursing is and what tasks you'll be doing and the interactions of all health personnel in the field. It would be a shame for you not to utilize your CNA training so I say try to apply to a ton of jobs, because if you do continue your education having established yourself at a job for a certain period of time might be beneficial. Hopefully your luck changes soon and I wish the best for you!

Thanks! I will keep applying online, like craiglist, indeed, etc. I will also drive around and apply.

I'm still not sure about becoming a nurse because I say to myself if I don't get accepted at a nursing program then I will consider nutrition as I am very into nutrition. I know I won't make a lot of money, but I realized money is not a problem. I just want to make enough for a living while doing something I love. Nutritionist is my 2nd choice. We'll see what happens.

I'm in Ohio and I believe you only have to work 6 hours a year to keep your CNA/STNA licensure.

What about to retake the CNA state exam without repeating the course? My license expires on 8/11/2013, so I have less than a year 'till it expires. I don't know what to do.. I really need help finding a job in order not to repeat the course. This sucks ;\

hopefully there is nothing on your background? I would think a man would be a commodity. Not very many male CNAs. I would think if you just told any DON that you needed your 8 hours to keep your license they could at least put you to work for one shift to keep it up?

Try the direct website for the hospitals you are trying to work at. Try going in to the department and asking what you can do to be hired. Try nursing homes, go in and ASK which website they use for applications. Nursing homes are always looking for good CNA's, so I'm sure there are opportunities for you, especially if you are just trying to get a few hours in here and then.

Best of luck to you!
