Dextrose

Hi, I am just trying to figure out something i read about dextrose. Dextrose is used to supply water and calories to the body.

I read that given 5mg IV it is an isotonic solution but given at 10mg it is a hypertonic solution and would pull fluid into the vascular space by osmosis resulting in pulmonary oedema.

Is this true?

Thanks

while most of your information is correct, two things are wrong.

dextrose is used to supply water and calories to the body.

i read that given 5
grams
iv it is an isotonic solution but given at 10
grams
it is a hypertonic solution and would pull fluid into the vascular space by osmosis resulting in pulmonary edema.
