best shoes during pregnancy

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Hi guys,

Can anyone suggest the best shoes to wear during pregnancy. I work 12hr shifts and I am on my feet walking down the halls all day. I need something that'll help with my backaches and tiring feet. Can anyone suggest what shoes to wear that are comfy but give support?

I first want to congratulate you on your pregnancy! How exciting! I am a nursing student, but I have worked other jobs in the past where I have had to be on my feet. I highly recommend going to places like New Balance or even just any old shoe store and just test out a bunch of the different shoes there and just see what feels better. You could also try using an insole, like Dr. Scholls for instance, to give a little extra comfort. Since every persons foot is different I would just try on a bunch and see which works best for you. New Balance, however, has a good reputation and a lot of my nurse friends get their shoes from there.

i can't recommend a specific brand but the best time to try on shoes for work is when you get off of a shift or have been on your feet all day and they are swollen but keep in mind they will swell even more the further along you go in pregnancy. this will give you a good idea as what kind of stretch you need.

also consider how far into your pregnancy are you going to be working (i say this because every pregnancy/person is different; with my first i worked on my due date, with my second i stopped at just before 8 months, and now with my third i've gotten hired on at two PRN jobs at 9 months, go figure - and yes, i'm due in a few weeks)...

so, at 8 or 9 months are you going to be able to tie your shoes or do you need to only get slip on kind... mine look like leather slippers but they work :lol2:

best of luck to you and consider getting some support hose, supposedly it makes a world of difference but i just can't stand having something that tight on my legs...

I wear slip ons. My feet get too swollen to tie shoes on!
