Warning about Ohio University and CLEP exams

If any of you prospective OU students are thinking about using CLEP exams to take care of some of your general education requirements, there is a hugely important policy you should know about:

You must take the exam and get the necessary score on it BEFORE you enroll at Ohio University. They will not accept CLEP exams taken after you enroll in courses there. So if you are hoping to use, say, the General Psychology or Introductory Sociology CLEP to take care of those requirements, you MUST do so before you start classes!

From the website: http://www.ohio.edu/admissions/transcredits/

Scroll down until you get to "Credit By Examination" and then look at their CLEP policy under that heading.

"Subject to approval by the appropriate department in each case, Ohio University will allow credit for satisfactory performance on the CLEP subject matter examinations, provided you take the examinations before you formally enroll in the university. The university does not award credit for scores achieved on the CLEP general examinations."

Here is a link to the CLEP exams that they do take, and the score required to get credit: http://www.ohio.edu/admissions/transcredits/upload/0307CLEP.pdf

Remember, you must take them before you enroll!

I'm glad I found this, because I plan on clepping sociology since I haven't had it. It also says "evaluation pending" for the Human Growth and Development CLEP, so I am going to try to use that test to get out of their Developmental Psychology requirement.

Just thought I'd give everybody a head's up.

For what it's worth, CLEP does not have a microbiology exam; however, there is an Excelsior exam for it.
