Has anyone taken this exam recently? Thoughts?

Tips? Worth?

Thanks,

I am going to take this exam toward the end of the year. I was reading on the ANCC website that the test has changed, and their is new book coming out in June.

Specializes in Operating Room.
I scored 335. I can out thinking it must have been a different test then what I studied. Some of the stuff must have been the sample questions because there were things that weren't even in the book. Then some of the choices they give you are like....whoa....I wish you the best of luck. I am disappointed that I didnt pass. I think you will have the new version of the test as well because they were not letting anyone test from May 1-6 as they go through the conversion. How long have you been a manager? Please keep me posted. And good luck.

Well ... I took it and passed it today.

It was very hard.

All of the ANCC tests that I have taken have been difficult.

I failed the ANCC Nursing Informatics test the first time, after earning a masters degree in the subject. I am a very good test taker though.

Anyways. I bought the audio review course that came with the review book and the small ANCC Nurse executive book.

I thought the review audio course and review book were a waste of time. I listened to the audio review course for the first night, and all the instructor did was verbally go over the review book.

I honestly don't know how I passed this exam. I felt like I guessed 1/2 of the time. I studied the small ANCC Nurse Executive book for about three hours yesterday. That is all I did. I recently had spine surgery and I have the next few months off. I thought I would have the time to concentrate and study for this exam, however I honestly didn't realize how tired I was going to be.

Anyways I have attended several nursing administration/leadership courses in the past 2 years and recently finished a MSN in 2011. I felt like nothing I studied from the Nurse Executive book was on the exam. Almost all of the questions on the test I got right were from empirical knowledge or from the leadership courses contained in the MSN degree.

Anyways, good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help...

Also, I took the new test...

Not sure what the differences were from the old test.

WOW I took the test as well and I thought they were badly written questions and the content covered in the resource book did not assist with the information that they were trying to illicit on the test.

Kindhearted .. did you pass it?

Same experiences with the review book.

If you took any leadership/management courses (in an MSN degree or post-masters certificate), then this should help.

I studied from cover-to-cover the Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing by Marquis and Huston. It helped a lot.

Can anyone tell me what they used to study for the Nurse Executive Basics. I failed my first time and I want to retake it but want to know what resources others have used.....

If they change the test one would think they would change the study materials.
