Published

hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew if a charge i received 12 yrs ago would prohibit me from completing the LPN program here in Kentucky, I have to turn my background check in, in a few days. I have a charge for having rolling papers,,,ie Drug Par. Unfortunately i was the driver of the car who had a car load of drunk friends being the sober driver that night costed me a charge, no one would speak up and claim.

Moved to the Licensure with a Criminal History forum.

To answer your question...that would be up to the school as to whether they will accept your criminal record, so you would need to ask them.

A second thing to consider is the KY BON. Even if the school turns out to be fine with your criminal history, that record would still have to be reviewed by the BON when you apply for licensure...and unfortunately the fact that your school may be OK with it doesn't mean the BON will automatically rubber-stamp their approval: they decide these matters on a case-by-case basis. You can drop your BON an e-mail (anonymous if you prefer) to ask for more info, but keep in mind that they probably won't give you a final answer until you actually apply for licensure.

There are many nurses with criminal records who have been able to complete school and get licensed. It may be tough but it's not always impossible. Best of luck!
