Should I stay or should I go and where to?

Nurses Job Hunt

Specializes in Rehab, pediatrics.

I feel so torn with my job situation currently. I am a newer grad with a little bit less than a year of experience. I currently work in adult inpatient rehab and subacute peds but I want to get my foot in the door with acute care before I am no longer considered for acute care jobs. I love my current jobs so I'm in no rush, I've just applied here and there. Currently I have two other jobs on the line but the timeline seems a little off. The first job is for a residency at a large teaching hospital. The pros with this is that it's a stepdown unit, there's a teaching component with the program, there's a 10 dollar raise, and I think it could pave the way for getting my foot in the door with the ICU eventually. The cons of this is that it is only part time and there is a 1hr commute give or take traffic. This job I already pretty much have, the offer is just dependent on my references. Job two pros is that the hospital is closer, I've heard about the great teamwork and employees there, and, it's full time. This second job is for a surgical trauma unit which my friend at the hospital told me it is pretty much their stepdown unit. The con with this hospital is that I've heard their interview process is very lengthy. Currently I was told I have an interview but they are still waiting to set up a date to have me come in. (It's been two weeks ugh!). So my dilemma is that I definitely see more pros to job two and I would prefer job two over job one but I don't have an offer or even an interview for job two yet. With job one they stated that everything would be squared away by the end of this week for me to come in if I was offered depending upon my references. I'm positive by the time I get an offer at job one I will still not even be done the interview process for job two. What do I do? I don't want to reject offer one and then get rejected by job number two in an interview and then be back to applying again. But I also don't want to accept offer number one and then end up getting an offer from job number two which I would prefer. But at the same time I still have a job currently to fall back on. So should I just be patient and reject the first offer until I get the "perfect" job? I just don't want to be kicking myself in the butt if I end up with neither.
