When to use a transfer belt

I'm a CNA who just started working in a nursing home and I'm unsure if I'm supposed to use a transfer belt when the chart says: SBA -Stand by assist

I know you don't have to when it says they're independent

and you are supposed to when it says CGA -Contact Guard Assist

I've been using the transfer belts on residents who are SBA just in case, but for SBA is it necessary?

Or do I just stand next to them while they walk to the bathroom etc.

You need to check the policy in your facility. Always air on the side of patient safety. Have you asked this question of the nursing staff they should be able to help you.

I would personally use a transfer belt for SBA because it gives you a nice handle to grab if the patient starts to go down you can help the regain balance or a least control the fall.
