Staffing and Nurse assignments

Nurses Safety

First off- let me start off with that I respect LPNs greatly and they work hard and do most everything I do, and are smart and capable nurses!

However, lately my managers have been putting me on the hardest, heaviest, and what everyone at work considers "worst" assignment in the facility. 2x the patients that 2x as many nurses share elsewhere, total cares, more meds, more treatments, etc.

THEN, because I work that unit, and the non-IV certified LPNS are on the other unit, I have to leave my unit, go to theirs (leaving my patients with no nurse) and do all of their IV's, PICCs, etc.

I don't think it is fair for management to staff like this. I should not have the biggest assignment and workload, then part of the other nurse's work to do too. I feel that if they can't do the whole assignment, they shouldn't be on that assignment. They state that this is their "permanent" assignment, yet they are more than willing to switch MY permanent assignment around.

What to do, how to address, any advice?
