Confused about SAUDI PROMETRIC

World Philippines

Published

Hello. I was interviewed last week by an Arab employer and luckily I got hired. The thing is, I got hired not as a Nurse but as a Pharmacy Technician since I don't have enough experience as a Staff Nurse here in the Philippines but I do have a one year experience in the Hospital Pharmacy. The employer told the agency that I should take Prometric Exam.

While browsing the Prometric website, there's an option on what exam will you take and I got consufed because Nursing Specialist/Tech and Pharmacy Technician are in the choices. But the minimum requirements for Pharm Tech is at least 2 yr diploma in Pharm Tech and I don't have that. I really don't have any idea if I'll pursue this Pharm Tech thing and I'm afraid that Saudi council will check my credentials especially my Cert of Employment.

BTW, I grabbed the opportunity to be a Pharmacy Technician because the agent in my agency told me that after 2 years I could ask the employer to assign me in Nursing Service. And I'm looking forward on that. I really want to practice my Nursing career since I'm really good at it back in college and my dream is to become a nurse. I was in Pharmaceutical field because of the Nursing situation here in the Philippines. I don't want to participate in Nurse Exploitation of the hospitals . They're so evil.

Please enlighten me

Hi there bagitongnurse! You cannot be a pharmacy tech in Saudi since first and foremost you do not hold a BS Pharmacy Diploma. Before the saudi embassy will give you a working visa, they will ask you to present the college diploma, transcript, prc documents including license and certificate of employment duly authenticated by the department of foreign affairs. So there's no way for you to get a visa as a pharmacy tech. Piece of advise, don't be easily fooled by some agencies or be blinded by their offers. Some are too good to be true. The only way for you to work there, since you're a nurse is first, pass the nurse tech exam through prometric and second, work in a tertiary hospital with a minimum of 100 beds. Believe me dude.

I am thinking that they will only give you a driver's visa, a laborer's visa or anything that does not require a licensure and primary source verification. Think about it bagitongnurse!

Thanks for the advise dopaminehcl.. With regards to experience, how many years should be presented in order for me to qualify for the Prometric Exam and get a job?

I am also confused about those new graduates who pass their requirements in POEA, they have no experience but they get hired in Saudi. Did they take Prometric prior to working im Saudi??

Got it bagitongnurse! Most probably the employer will grant them visas but not as nurses. They will work then as a private duty nurse since the saudi council does not regulate the practice of privatr duty nursing, it will be easy for the employers and the aspiring sponsors to obtain a visa. But it's too risky my colleague! Majority of Filipinos as private nurse suffer from maltreatment physically or in terms of salary. Other thing is that they will work in polyclinics. I know you have an idea what are they. Now, the fact that the saudi hospitals only recognize tertiary hospital experience for 2 years, how much more if you are planning on transferring to bigger hospitals from polyclinics. It woud be hard. Really, not unless you have a relative there who could help you. But as for me, go the right way. Just be patient. It may be not now. Remember that everything will fall into its rightful place and time. :)

Aspiring applicants not sponsors. That's what I mean.

Have you been to Saudi dopaminehcl? By the way, my employer really needs nurses in his hospital. I envy those who will be hired as a Staff Nurse. I've been out of nursing for almost 3 years now but I have this thought that if God really wants me to work in Pharmacy, then I'll go for it, I'm thinking that this is just palliative since we know nursing jobs in the Philippines nowadays are complicated. And prior to going abroad, it's like do or die. I have some collegues from my previous hospital and they faked their documents in order to go to Singapore but I wouldn't risk my life and career just by faking documents. I would rather take a job not related to nursing than going straight to nursing job by falsifying my documents.

Nope bagitongnurse! Hehehehe. Come on stay positive! Remember jvtriumfante, bittersweet and I are still optimistic that diliman doctors hospital will call us! Hehehehehe. I have attempted many times to diverge into other fields but at the end of the day, I feel as if I did not accomplish anything. I felt like quitting. Anyway, if you think and feel that going abroad as a pharmacy tech will be you big break then go for it! Always pray bagitongnurse. But as for me, don't hurry things. I know it's easier said than done. I know how you feel because I have been rejected many times. I have no backer then so what. Remember if plan A did not work out then go for plan B, plan C and so on and so forth. I do not want to sound as if I am preaching you. I just want to enlighten you! :)
