Are you fluent in French? If you aren't it doesn't matter how many vacancies there are in Montreal (and there are a LOT), because you have to pass their very difficult French language tests before they'll license you.

Nurses in Quebec start at $20.28 and top out at $30.22 an hour with a 12 rung wage scale. BSNs earn an additional $1.62 an hour. Shift differentials are $2.08 per hour for nights and 4% of basic salary for evenings and weekends, or between $0.81 and $1.21 an hour.

For information on emigrating go to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html and follow the links. Best of luck!

    Hi Janfrn,

THanks for your reply i'm actually very fluent in french, but i'm just a bit scared that the french requirement will throw me off b/c of the med terms. I just wanted to know if the rumor is true about people moving to Montreal and getting placed in apartments and getting jobs before they get on their feet. For me it' ll be a major move b/c i've lived in NYC all my life. IF there's anything else please let me know.

    THanks in advance!

If you are fluent in French, you are just like me. Don't sweat it, pull out your NCLEX books and review your material: remember the long and boring OB and peds, anyways for me it was the difficult stuff!
Check out the OIIQ (Office des infirmires et infirmiers du Qubec), they tell you about your requirements as a immigrant or nurse from outside Qc.
I found out that you can do the board exams in English, so we are OK! I am lost about the French abbreviations and medical terms too, althought, if you need a cheet sheet I will mail you what I found online.
Why would you want to go to MTL? When you have plenty of opportunities in NYC, + $$$... Just curious!:trout: :spin:
Me I have my family, family house and view on the sea!
Good luck! PM me if you desire + infos, I would be happy to help!
    Marie
