Hey all! I have enjoyed reading in this forum. My goal has always been to teach in a nursing program, at some point. I am currently an ADN prepared RN ready to go back to school. After talking with some other advanced practice nurses that teach, I have learned that it may be very beneficial for me to acquire my NP in the Master's program, that way I will always have additional career options. My question is this: can you teach with a MSN-NP or do you have to also get your MSN in nursing education? Also, do any of you know of any scholarships or such for this type of career path? I know that hospitals/organizations offer tuition reimbursement, but was wondering if any of you knew of any additional financial assistance.

Thanks so much!

In my area of the world (central IL) all you need is an MSN - doesn't matter what the conconcentration is. However, you are so right that the NP will give you more options. I am looking at a post-MSN clinical nurse specialist in order to give me more options. Good luck.

What kind of post master course can one take ?. Do you have a MSN degree already in nursing education?. What other options are open apart from teaching and staff development?.

Did you read my previous post?? I am an ADN RN wanting to go back to school. And, I wasnt talking about a post master's program. You can do the MSN route and when you get to the end of the program, you decide whether to do MSN-Education or MSN-NP. I found that out today. The reason that I want my NP is because I do not want to be tied down to ONLY teaching and education/staff development in the hospital setting. My question was can you teach with a MSN-NP degree and not MSN-Education, in case I did want to do that.
