Cerner and "authenticating" student entries.

Hello all,

I take my students to a hospital that uses Cerner EMR. The faculty are required to authenticate the entries for our students. This is my first semester to use this, and it seems labor intensive. I find that I have to go through the chart band by band and sometimes line by line to find items needing authentication. Anyone else using Cerner? Is there a better way? We also validate the meds administered, but that side of the system seems to work fine, I click on an icon, it shows me meds with a "pending validation" message and I take care of them. I would like for all charted items needing authentication to be easier to find. Help.

Each facility sets up its computer screens to suit its own needs. You'll have to ask your resources at the hospital for some additional assistance.

My hospital is in the process of designing and implementing its EMR using Cerner as a base. We are struggling with the student documentation piece of it and have found no answers to our questions/concerns within the basic Cerner package. It's up to us to design the system the way we want it to be.

Thanks llg for your response. I have discussed this issue with the contacts at the institution, but still no resolution is available.

I bet the hospital chose that option. We had that choice till I pointed out that everyone is responsible for their own charting and the RN is responsible for the patient and interventions, planning and education. So whatever the student charts does not have as much weight. HOWEVER, fundamentals students do not chart in the EMR. They do paper charting that is later discarded, and give vital signs/I&O, etc to nurse for charting.
