Trying to decide between LVN boards and externship for summer

I'm beginning my third semester in RN BSN program in Texas. Other students in my class said we are able to take the LVN nclex after we complete this semester that will end in early May. Also, the hospitals here will do summer externship programs.

I'm trying to decide if It's worth my time and money to take the LVN nclex, or if I should just try for an externship instead. It seems like by the time I get my results of the nclex, get a job and start working, it will be time to go back for my final semester of the RN program in september.

ANy helps, or suggestions on this?
