Treatment Nurse?

Nurses Career Support

Published

We have a treatment nurse position open at work, and I'm *thinking* about applying for it. They want someone who's been there 6 months, and I haven't, but I have an excellent work record there, so I thought I would have a shot anyways. It's something that interests me, and the hours are nice, but I'm just not sure I have enough experience as a nurse for the position. I know the one that is leaving hadn't had much either, and the way I understand it, there are no special classes or certifications for treatment nursing. So what all is usually expected of a treatment nurse? I know you do the treatments, LOL, and try to get special beds and things like that into the facility, but what else is usually involved? Do you make the decisions as to what creams, dressings, ect go on wounds, or do you have to get that from the doctor? I enjoy wound care, and am familiar with the basic dressing materials and creams, but I still feel there are so many things that I don't know.

I work LTC, so a lot of it is skin tears, pressure ulcers, and incisions on the rehab hall.
