Rn Sales, How do I get started????

Nurses Career Support

Published

Specializes in NICU, laser hair removal, private RN.

I am an RN. Associates Degree. I have been in the Neonatal ICU for about 4 years now. Level 2 and 3. I was an LVN before that for about a year and a half, and worked with adults and did lots of floating. medsurg, tele, psych, post partum, peds.

Also as an RN i have worked at a medi spa doing laser hair removal and done some private home health for the wealthy.

I am 26 years old, female, and feel that I have experienced alot of different types of nursing for my short time in. I am ready to leave the bedside and do something with more potential such as sales. I know I would be great at it!

Ok so here is my question :)

How do I go from being a nurse in the hospital to getting into Pharmaceutical sales or medical device sales???

I have been looking around and it seems like everyone wants experience. well how do you get experience if they wont hire you without it???

With my NICU background I could easily sell neonatal supplies. I would rather sell supplies than meds anyway for many reasons. I just dont know where to start out. I just really want a job with more earning potential that is not so hard on my body. (12 hour shifts and standing all day long are getting to me and I am young!)

Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I did Pharm Sales and am now in nursing school. It has become a very tough position to get, plus the industry is shifting toward a more temporary work force- much less career stability. Lots of downsizing and territory shifting on a regular basis. It is a pretty exciting, enjoyable job if you are single, can travel and overnight easily and financially solvent enough to weather the frequest layoff cycles.

First and foremost, I would tell you that I don't know of any Pharm Co.s that hire anyone without a Bachelors Degree in something. I would suggest you check your local paper, especially the nearest large urban center and go to a health care or sales job fair. They will almost always be there. You can find them advertised in the newspaper classifieds. It isn't likely that you will find the job that you want, but it will give you a better idea of what companies in your area require.

Good luck!
