returning to nursing

Nurses Career Support

Published

I am in sort of a funk with where I want to go in my career. I graduated with my ADN almost 3 years ago and am now finishing up my BSN completion in May. I was an ICU nurse for a year after graduating but burnt out very quickly and then on top of it needed emergency back surgery as I herniated 3 discs and developed cauda equina syndrome. I took the last year off to just finish my BSN and have now just been told I am released to go back into nursing. The problem is I am really not sure of what nursing opps are available to me. I know I do not want to do ICU as I burnt out oo quickly and it just wasn't for me. Nobody seems to want to hire me because of my year off due to health reasons and being young and relatively new I do not know how to present it in a positive manner to show that I am still capable. When I burnt out I never thought I would ever want to go back into nursing. I honestly am missing it so much now, I just want to go back and do what I love. It is amazing how much I miss it which shows me just how much a calling this profession was in my life. I have looked into alternative nursing areas utside of the hospital such as home nursing or even insurance nursing or hotline nursing but I cannot find any information on how to apply. Anybody who has been through anything similar or who has an suggestions for me please let me know! I have kept up my ce's and obviously have been studying as I am completing my BSN and I am really considering my master's after this. I just need help with where to go now and how to get back into my profession. I appreciate your help you all rock and happy holidays to all of you!
