Job interview follow up-- what would you do?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi everyone! First off, I'd like to apologize because this is going to be pretty long! I'm currently at a loss what to do and some insight would be wonderful!

I'm a new grad as of the end of June with a diploma from one of the local hospitals. This network of hospitals payed my tuition as long as I agree to work for them for 2 years after graduation.

HOWEVER, I've been trying and trying to get a job and I don't seem to be having any luck!

I had 2 wonderful interviews for which my status is still up in the air.

On July 15, I had an interview for a neuro unit, shadowed on the 18th, and totally kicked butt. The nurse that I followed even texted the UD that night (while I was still there) and said "HIRE HER!" The next day I spoke to the UD and she said that she had one more interview and promised that they would have a decision by the end of "next week". (Even though "next week" is long gone.) I've spoken to the HR department and they said that they were choosing between myself and 2 other candidates. The last time I spoke to HR was last Thursday, August 4th and the recruiter, who recognized me before I even said my last name, said, "You'll be the first to know when they have a decision!" She sounded perky and promising, but still... nothing.

On July 22, I had another interview with a postpartum unit. That went well too! I loved those UDs, had a great shadowing experience, yadda yadda yadda. They told me it would take 2-3 weeks for them to finish interviewing before THEY made a decision, even though I was notified the next day that they were performing a background check on me. Last Thursday, I also called that hospital to speak to another recruiter, and she said that they were simply waiting on my criminal check. I didn't ask if that meant I had the job if I "passed".

So now there are people that I know left and right who have interviewed with these two hospitals and been hired within days, while I'm still sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting on a decision either way on either position. Should I email/call them again? I don't want to be a pest but I know I'm missing out on other jobs at these hospitals by waiting on these other people! Any suggestions?

Thanks!
