Hi, ? about LVN-RN programs.

Nurses Career Support

I've just started an LVN program in California. I am trying to plan my next educational step. I guess first I should say my ultimate goal is to earn a Masters as a Nurse Anesthetist. But first I have to choose an RN program. I have 2 options, both are step ups, the 1st is to do the minimum credit requirements to be an RN without an ADN which would take me approx. 6-7 months then move on to BSN. The 2nd would be to step up to ADN that taking 1 1/2 yrs then move on to BSN. I am hoping to hear from those who have done either of these options. I have heard varying things of practicing as an RN without at least and ADN, well the only thing that I have heard is that I may only be able to practice as an RN in the state I was licensed, which wouldn't be too big of a deal as long as I still have LVN. But that comes from an unexperienced source. I also have time constraints which is why I am inquiring, my husband is in the military, so whatever I do or decide has to be in a timely manner. We are supposed to transfer in 7/2007, but might stay in the area if I'm going to school it's still up in the air. Not only that, I also have my own personal goals, I'm 24 now, I hope to be at the very least 1/2 through my Masters program if not finished by 30.

Thank you for entertaining the questions of a newbie, and I hope I can learn as much as I can from those of you who have been there. TIA for your responses.

STAFF- Is there a better place to post this question to get answers?

For one thing, you cannot practice in a state where you are not licensed.

The route you choose should be based on finishing a program that will allow you to sit for your NCLEX before you have to relocate. Then you can take it from there in your new home.
