Help deciding which floor !

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hey everyone

I am a new RN grad. I recently passed my RN boards in December. I have about three years of pediatric experience as an LPN in a urgent care facility and one year of LPN experience in an OR of a level one trauma center working with the rapid response team.

Unfortunately I have to relocate now because the hospital I work at does not hire associate level RNs nor does any hospital in the state I live in and I really would like to get hospital experience.

I got offered two positions in a different state. One is on the pediatric med surg floor and the other is on the cardiac step down unit. Which one should I take ? I am having such a tough time making a decision. The pediatric med surg job is also night shift and I am so exhausted from working night shift. Peds is my passion however part of me feels like I should do the cardiac for at least a year or two in order to get some critical care experience. If anyone could offer me any advice I would really appreciate it ! Thank you so much in advance.

I say hop on the PCU job to make it easier to further your career if Critical Care is something you're interested in. You can always grab a per diem job working in Peds to keep those skills up. :)
