Foreign trained nurse looking to take 2 classes

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi,

I am an U.S. citizen who moved to Australia for 3 and 1/2 years where I did my RN training, graduated and worked for 6 months in pediatrics. Now I'm back in California (the Bay Area), and have been notified by the BRN that I need to complete 2 more courses - psych and obstetric nursing - in order to be eligible to take the NCLEX exam. However, I am having a great deal of difficulty finding any schools that will allow me to take these courses. They all claim they have no space - any ideas on schools that would allow me to take these classes?? Any help is GREATLY appreciated because I feel as though I hit a wall at every turn.

Thanks in advance!

hi i'm in the same situation as you... (r.n australian trained, now in the us) just wondering if you had any luck with finding a way to complete your courses for nclex eligibility?

would love to know how you went with completing the requirements.

I finally found one school in N. California that would allow me to take the classes I need - Contra Costa College. They asked that I send them a letter explaining my situation along with a copy of the letter from the BRN that says what classes I need. Then I had to complete one pre-requisite - a drug calculation class - and now I'm registered for their OB class that starts in January.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your reply i'm glad you found a college that will let you take the classes you need! I'm residing in Illinois but it's comforting to know that it's possible to find colleges that will allow you to take only a few classes!

Thank You and Good Luck! :)
