Boston ICU Jobs

Nurses Career Support

Published

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on getting an ICU job in the Boston area. I currently work on a medical floor at one of Bostons learning hospitals, this is my first nursing job (worked as an EMT for 2 years prior) and I have been on my floor for 9 months. My goal is to get into an ICU after 1 year of med surg, but I am not sure if this is going to be possible, based on what I've heard from other nurses on my floor, many of whom are saying it takes at least 3 years of med surg experience to get into an ICU. I really do not enjoy working on med surg, and the thought of staying on my floor for another 2 years is very frustrating. Has anyone on here gotten into an ICU from a med surg floor with 1 year experience in the Boston area? Most ICU job postings say you need ICU experience to get in, but where are you supposed to get this ICU experience if you can't get onto a floor? Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!
