Asking about PRN after Full-Time Offer

Nurses Career Support

Published

So I am not a nurse, but my work related field is close to nursing so I was hoping some of you could give me some feedback. I just recently graduated with an undergraduate degree in Human Services. I have had two job offers for two separate positions. One is as a Mental Health Tech with UHS, and the other as a Patient Advocate with a Children's Hospital. The Patient Advocate position I believe is a "better" job, but it is PRN that requires I work one weekend a month. The Mental Health Tech position is full time but requires every weekend. I would like to do both in reality. However, with the one job requiring one weekend a month, and the other requiring every weekend this is not possible. Ideally I would love to work both of these jobs PRN, and gain experience from each of these very different positions.

So thus brings up my question. I am due to go fill out paperwork for the Mental Health Tech position this week. I know this facility also hires PRN Mental Health Techs. Is there a professional way of explaining my situation to HR and asking if I could possibly work PRN instead of full-time at the position?

Thanks,

-Nathan
