Any career advice for a former student?

Nurses Career Support

Hi guys, I'm pretty sure you have all heard the story....Some one had tried nursing school and decided it wasn't for them.

My story is pretty similar. I was admitted into nursing school this year and I was so happy and seeing how proud my parents looked at me was just the greatest feeling. In my first semester I did well...receiving a B in the first class, but in the back of my mind I couldn't help but feel that this wasn't for me, but I just brushed it off and thought maybe it was just because i'm still adjusting to everything. When my second class started I started off strong but this is where I really started to have second thoughts of being a nurse and eventually lost my drive. I was having problems studying...every time I studied I was just not retaining anything anymore..bottom line was my heart was no longer in it. I just hated what nursing students loved about nursing...I was the first in my clinical group to give injections, pack and dress pressure sores, and administer IV's. All my classmates were gushing with excitement and wished they could have the opportunities I had...and I wish I was just excited as they were but I hated it. Surprisingly my clinical instructor always tells my patients, my other instructors, and even the students how great I am performing in clinical....she even shared how well I do during one of her lectures to our entire school. What I did enjoy as a student nurse was my ability to make my patients feel emotionally better, I have always been praised for having a warm personality, and I loved being a team player. Something that drew me into nursing was also working with the human body and being able to heal injuries or illness...I guess you can say I'm not enjoying the "nursing approach" to it. I just need some advice..has anybody been in a similar situation and did you make a career change..if so... to what?

Are you still in nursing school? There are many opportunities within the nursing profession. What specifically do you not like about nursing??
