Advice on Travel Nursing

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello. I have been an RN for 3 years and considering travel nursing. Actually I have been offered a position in my home town for a position I an interview scheduled for already through the Hospital. I am looking for advice, pit falls to watch out and anything else you could think of. Thanks

I have read on another site about travel nursing, here are some rules they say are always a must:

1. Get everything in writing, if a promise is made, a benefit offered, a salary quoted, get it in writing. No contract=no proof of offer.

2. Keep a little money stashed away in case the deal falls through. The best nurses run into situations they feel unsafe, so be prepared to inform company of concerns and be prepared to quit and get home at your own expense if necessary.

3. Do not discuss salary with regular staff. Expect to feel lonely at times, some staff are not open to travelers. Expect to be tried and tested, you have to prove your worth at most positions.

4. Remember, politics of the unit are not your problem unless you are unfairly treated. So no politics.

5. No gossip.

6. Accept the policies for the facility and do not attempt to change them. If you have a better way, offer to show the CN/HN but change is difficult, so do not expect them to jump up and accept your way of doing things.

I hope these help and make sense to you. Good luck.
