Looking to connect with other Christian nurses

Nurses Spirituality

Published

Hi everyone,

My name is Suzie. I am a registered nurse in Pensacola, Florida. Nursing has been my heart and passion more and sometimes less since the mid 1990's. I have worked in the acute care hospital setting since then. I have a wandering spirit, so I have experience in most areas of adult care.

I expected Jesus Christ as my Savior as a young adult, years before becoming a nurse. Initially, I did not feel "called" into nursing, but soon began to realize my potential to serve as Christ's ambassador to the sick and dying. Although, I have to be honest and say that my feelings regarding my nursing career have not always been "blissful." I have been, like many other nursing colleagues, tapped dry by the realities of our profession. THANKFULLY, I allowed the Lord to refresh my spirit and regained a renewed perspective on our blessed profession and my opportunity to serve.

In 2006, I founded a nursing ministry organization. Since then, I, along with many of my nursing friends, have pursued a variety of activities aimed at encouraging other nurses and serving local and global communities.

I am currently in school pursuing a graduate degree in nursing education at Walden University online. I am enjoying this experience very much as it expanding my knowledge and perspective regarding patient care and nursing professional issues.

I live in Pensacola, Florida with my husband, Michael. We have four grown children and a precious granddaughter.

I am looking forward to connecting with nurses of the Christian faith from around the world.

Blessings!

Suzie

P.S. I also updated my profile and social media info if you are interested.

Hello Suzie, I was looking around all nurses for people whom I can connect with as well that believe in Jesus, especially in today's world . I admire your accomplishments and wanted to ask you a question ? I am currently in starting nursing school in the fall and I have struggling to find a balance between studying for school and studying the bible and building a more intimate relationship with Jesus. I asked u this because u have accomplished so much, how do u find the time to really get close to God and do everything else lol ??

Hi Raynelle,

Congrats on beginning nursing school. It is fantastic that you are thinking ahead as to how you wil find time for devotion and drawing nearer to God through Christ. You are sooooo wise to do this first above all else. You are likely to have times when everything seems overwhelming, just hang in there. Make the decision in advance that nothing will come before your relationship with The Lord.(which it seems like you have already)

I know how it is in school. As a matter fact, I am back in school now. I have to ease up on the bigger Bible studies while I am going to school. I have a group of other nurses that I study with on a fairly regular basis. This is a tremendous encouragement to stay motivated and in the Word. We keep it relax.

You may wish to pray and ask God to connect you with other Christians in your class. They may also like to do a little devo time with you before a class or study session.

I use You Version Bible app on my phone. I can then pull it out anytime I have a couple of minutes. Try this even if you only focus on the verse of the day.

Listen to sermons and worship music while you are getting ready or driving to class.

Keep your Bible by your bed for a quick read in the morning or before bed. Just keep exposing your mind to His truth in bite size pieces.

Pray without ceasing. Pray before you feet even hit the floor in the morning. Pray little short prayers silently throughout the day. Once you find fellw Christians in class, ask them to join you early for prayer on test days. You can simply read a per written prayer if you like. It just matters that you are putting God first. His heart will be blessed no matter what form your devotion and prayer is in.

Above all, begin to pray now and tell Him your concerns of not having balance in your life. Commit your schooling and your nursing service to The Lord from the very beginning. Pray that He will be honored through your work. Then as things get hectic -and they will- you can rest easy that you are doing it all in devotion to God. Your work be be your worship of Him. (Colossians 3:23) You are guaranteed to draw closer to The Lord.

Raynelle, basically Keep God first, pray often, and read the Bible when you can. Set your heart on serving Him. He will take care of the rest.

Best wishes! You will have a life transformation when you become a nurse. it is exciting! i will be praying for you. I am sure that you will do awesome!

Hi Suzie:)

I am a nursing student and I think that its amazing that you are such a strong Christian who loves the Lord and who desires to spread the love of Christ to others through your work. I know that it might be hard because you might experience some resistance from those who do not belive in the Lord, but I think its important to, as Christians, not get discouraged when doing the Lord's work. Many times, I am not pushing my faith on others, but simply praying for them when they request and being kind in the way Jesus would require. Thanks for starting this blog to reach out to other Christian Nurses:)

I agree and feel the same! So happy to have found this thread! This is awesome!!

actually, you clicked the "nursing and spirituality forum", lol. and i don't think she is trying to convert anybody--she is looking to speak "with fellow christian nurses" to share with... ;) nothing here about preaching to people who aren't already christian. THAT would be against the TOS, i believe!

probably the confusion is related to the fact that this thread also shows up on the most liked nursing topics of the day, and people don't know much about the existence of this forum to begin with...? seems like that is what happened.

anywho, welcome to allnurses, Suzie!!

Well said!

@SuzieF I'm so glad I found this thread. I had the same question/concerns as Raynelle09. I'm in nursing school and have been having a difficult time finding a balance. God is so gracious, I know He sees my heart and knows my desire is to serve and love Him above all else. I am confident He will help me balance life as I go along and commit my life to Him.

Hi SlimM26,

I am glad that you are choosing to walk out your faith in the service of nursing. Yes, God does see your heart and knows your honest desire. Rest in knowing that if your heart is set on serving the Lord through a career in nursing, then look at each day of school, every clinical situation, and the countless hours of studying as a form of worship of Him.

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24

Respectfully,

Suzie

Hi Suzie, I too am a Christian and an RN. I graduated nursing school in 1985. You are right that we as Christians can lift up, encourage, help the weak, sick and dying as a follower of Christ. We have a chance to witness and share our faith if the situation warrants it also. It's nice to know there are nurses like you out there. God bless.

Blessed to of found this thread! I am a christian nurse. I work in the hospice setting. I adore my job. I work for a Christian organization however I take care of pts of all faiths. I do so to the best of my ability. I dont push my beliefs on others but if asked I will be honest. If I see in someones chart they are of christian faith or if this is shared with me, I will offer to pray for them. I have never been turned down in this sense. My faith shines through in all I do. Without God I dont know how I would be able to fair at my job where I help people die daily. I love working in "Heavens Waiting Room". It is an honor and a privilege to be with pts at the end of life. If anyone knows of any Christian nurse support groups/pages etc please pass them on. I would be interested. I only skimmed through all 58 posts. :) Blessings!
