Department of Health Working on Statement of Policy - As indicated in HAP Memo 03-52, HAP has urged the Pennsylvania Department of Health to issue a statement of policy that permits certified registered nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives and physician assistants to work in hospitals in accordance with their respective scope of practice acts and regulations and as permitted by hospital policies and procedures within the context of executed collaborative agreements. The Department of Health has developed a draft statement of policy that has been shared with HAP, and HAP has discussed some recommended language changes that the department is considering making to the draft policy statement. The department has indicated its intent to share the revised draft with HAP and other key stakeholder groups representing nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians before moving forward with publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
