help/suggestions for job action/bargaining

Nurses Activism

The contract for the British Columbia nurses will be coming up for renewal (bargaining) at the end of March. Does anyone have any suggestions for persuasive/effective job action strategies? Some of our key "issues" this round of bargaining will be such things as: nurse-to-pt. ratios, workload, job security, more full-time jobs.

We are currently dealing with an extreme right wing govt. (big business lovers/anti-union)- who upon getting elected, pulled a "legislative vandalism" - introducing a Bill which basically gutted our contracts. The bill allows for privatization of our health care services, contracting out, loss of designated days of for part-timers, calling in of our casual nurses out of order, increasing increment (wage) steps, ability to reassign nurses without their consent on a permanent basis to other facilities/districts, loss of job security/access to training/job placement, and so on.

Any and all suggestions will be gratefully received! :D
