Want to get my RN while on monitoring program?

Hello everyone! Would love some advice from those with experience on this topic. I have a little over 2 more years on a 4 year contract with CT BON. I want to get my RN. I finished all my prereqs and was accepted in to a community college program in Spring 2015. Due to the terms of my contract, I have to tell the school my situation, so the clinical sites will allow me to complete my education. Unfortunately, the school called me to tell me that they couldn't get me into clinical because this was so "new" . My question is, I know people have done this and completed their RN while on probation on their LPN license. I am so upset about this because I did fairly well, with GPA of 3.69 and feel that if I am being drug tested, and all this, why wouldn't they want me? What would you all do in this circumstance? My monitor told me that after I complete my probation, I don't " have" to divulge any info. Should I wait 2 more years? Should I keep applying until i can get a YES from the clinical site?

P.S. I had a substance abuse issue. Was reported to BON because of "erradict" behavior, and tested positive for illegal substances. Also I have a clean criminal background, which does help a little.

Thank you all for your time, and please all and any feedback is appreciated.

I would recommended finish your monitoring then start fresh. I had a 1 year monitoring when I applied for my CNA license. I had just started my program when I was accepted Into the nursing program. I was concerned about being able to work as a CNA., raise my family and complete school. I was advised by my case worker to inactivate my CNA license and go to school so that's what I did. After graduation I applied for my license and was given a 3 year. I was so upset. Had I completed my 1 year and waited to do school I probably wouldn't be having the problems I am having know. It's best to just start fresh with school and not have to fight😄good luck

I know this is upsetting, but you must understand the tremendous liability risk you present to the clinical sites. They don't know ANYTHING about you except your problem. You would probably do well to complete your monitoring, and THEN look at getting your RN.

I wish you the best.

That's what I have been thinking. Thank you for your feedback...it's nice to talk to a variety of situations on here, to see all sides... I hate waiting, bit I'm thinking it might be what's best.. just hope my sciences don't expire. I know it's 5 years (in CT), I think might just make it, fingers crossed.. good luck to you ;-)

Thanks for your response. That's what my monitor said, however my monitor also said there have been people that did complete school while on probation. It seems at my situation is different and I have to be patient. And I absolutely understand the liability. Wish on paper I didn't look so bad. Substance abuse and nursing doesn't gontogether, I get it. Sometime I wish I could turn back the hands of time, and make better choices.. thanks so much !!

I think the fact that you have not even attempted to make excuse here (when you could have) speaks well of you. Keep the faith!

Agreed. Accepting what needs to be done is a sign of integrity and maturity even in such a difficult scenario when one is desperate to move on and up in life. Kudos to you. This attitude will serve you well!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the positive reinforcement from all... Thats all I have is to remain positive. This is the hardest thing I've dealt with, of course after kicking my old habits. Nursing is my love and passion. It is all I have to look forward to in my future, and I will do whatever I need to. Hate being broke, and wondering how my bills will be paid from month to month. Good luck to all!!
