RN with new Restrictions on license

I have 10 years in ED, recently received narcotic restrictions. Looking for a new job. I don't know how to go about explaining this. Also wondering if there are those that have had success getting a job after discipline. I have no desire to go back to ED where narcotics are everywhere. Suggestions..?

I'm sure you will find all sorts of useful stories, tips, and encouragement in these threads. A lot of us have been through the working-with-stipulations/restrictions thing--it sometimes takes longer to find work, but there are people out there willing to take you on.

Yes but after many, many fail attempts. You have to obviously be persistent untill successful.

How about drug and alcohol rehab? There are no narcotics, bentos, tramadol, or Lyrica allowed anywhere near their facilities. There's really nothing there anyone would want to divert, unless maybe you are having some heartburn and would want to pop a pepcid. Also, there are many employees there that are in recovery. Those types of facilities believe in giving second chances.

Not trying to be argumentative, but we give Librium for ETOH withdrawal, and a lot of places give Ativan. Some patients coming off benzos get a taper. Tramadol is also given to opiate withdrawal patients. But I work at a rehab with medical detox. I'm sure it would be different in a rehab that doesn't offer that.

Several LTC facilities in my area are willing to hire nurses with restrictions.

Employee health, dialysis, telephone triage...

I know of an RN who got a job in dialysis after having public discipline...

When I was first looking for a job I would explain it if the position required giving narcotics- of course this led to a "thanks but no thanks" situation...

Keep trying- look for that yes and look for something that will benefit you
