Nurses Recovery

Hi everyone. My name is Tammy and I am in recovery from Alcohol and drugs. I lost my licensure last summer while doing chemo for leiomyosarcoma. I did not have the energy or desire to fight for them and gave them to the board. I want to take my power back and move forward and reinvent myself. I am asking for ideas to a new career. I am 53 years old and live in Middle Tn. I know this is a very generalized question but I look forward to reading any others experiences

I worked with a nurse in recovery in the newborn nursery once. She was in a rehabilitation program and the newborn nursery was a way for her to continue practice on her way to recovery. It sounds like you have already given up your license, so a nurse recovery program may not be an option. Sometimes, jobs in social work may also be available to RN's. Also case management, in long term care facilities. Depending on the nursing job availability in your area, you may have to consider jobs outside nursing. I would echo the comments above, unless you have a burning desire to get your nursing license back.

With your experience you could be hired in Case Management, Social Work, Preventive Health. You might also want to look into Community Resource services. They often do not need a nursing license.
