so I thought a drug screen for marijuana I informed my nurse manager and inform us and no it was discussed and unfortunately that hate it too but but I was terminated and reported self to board I supported. So I get a letter to help an investigation is open. I got a letter stating need an addiction evaluation. Okay researching the list of names I gave me each one is $600 or more lost my insurance lost my job there was no way to have this done I inform on the Arkansas State Board of Nursing investigator who didn't tell me I have to pay for it and if I don't after voluntarily surrender my license. I told him I did not want to do that I just needed information regarding an extension or any way of other help I could get you know and very rude man that investigator. He says well it needs to be turned in on the 31st of January in which I received a certified letter the 23rd of December okay that a holiday. Should there be something that the board has to do or have as a personal to do addiction evaluations for nurses who do need help. It doesn't seem like they're helping it seems like they want you to fail so that you will surrender your license. Help I need help please !!

Ok here is the long and short of it - First the BON does not care about you or your license so get that through your head. Their only mandate is to protect the public from evil, bad impaired nurses. $600.00 for an addiction evaluation is only the beginning. If you are accepted into a probation or monitoring program you will be paying for periodic psych evaluations, Inpatient or out patient treatment. Up to 6 UDS a month at $60.00 to $75.00 a pop. CEU's in addiction and so much more fun.

I don't mean to kick you when your are down but it's best to face reality head on.

I went through this process from 2004-2009 with the California Diversion Program I have been continuously sober since 2004 and honestly though I hated the process at the time I have to admit it saved my life, my career and my marriage. I now get to be the best person, mom, wife and nurse I can be an the strongest substance I crave is a good cup of coffee to start my day.

I did have to take out a second mortgage on my home and all told it ended up costing me about $25,000.00 But's it's all paid pack now and Following the advice of the great Gordon Ramsey - I am almost debt free today with an unencumbered license to boot.

You can do this

You have been given THE REALITY, of course of action by prior post....

this is can be worked through...., but you have to do your part $600/eval is cheap, I have seen some at $1500-2,000.00

its a long bumpy road, but if you want to be a nurse, traverse it, make recovery your priority...

my my best wishes...

I had my evaluation in Arkansas for 350 dollars. You have to pay with cash, even if you had insurance they do not take it. The posts above are correct, it's not a cheap process. I pay FirstLab 100 dollars per month, plus you pay the collection site each time you test. Luckily my site only charges 30 per test. I had to pay the board a 1000 dollar fine, but they will let you make quarterly payments on your fine. You have to accept that this is a money making business for them and try not to take things personally. I attend Celebrate Re meetings weekly, these help me to deal with the wide array of feelings that I experience!
