MD RN in recovery :-)

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hey everyone!! I am new to this forum. Started my contract this month with the Maryland BoN. They were very compassionate and helpful in getting this process started for me. I can't give narcotics for 6 months but thankfully my employer is working with me and having people cover me until I can get my CDS privileges back. I am so happy that I get to keep my license even though I sympathize with everyone here because the program requirements are very daunting!! Wish you all the best!!

The requirements are daunting, yes, but you have a supportive employment situation which makes it a lot easier.

For me, once I got a good understanding of the requirements and had made changes to my lifestyle such as eliminating things that could cause a positive UDS, things were ok. There are times that I feel "this is a nuisance", but I carry on and follow the rules. That's the best way I know to get through these monitoring contracts. Find out exactly what is expected of you, know the rules and policies, follow them to the letter, don't drink or use, fly below the radar and just take it one day at a time.

Very nice to meet you. This is a great forum, lots of good people here with quality recovery. Welcome!

Thanks so much!! I am just so grateful to be healing and still get to keep my career. It is hard some days. I cry a lot for little to no obvious reason lol but I think it's just a way my emotions are finally coming out and being released.

It's ok. We all cry sometimes.

Hi Maria,

I too just started TPAPN (TX) this past month. It is all very overwhelming and I am at the point of job hunting. I cry a lot too, but at least I have hope these days. When I was in the midst of my addiction and working a great job, I had none. Funny how things work out. Welcome to AN.

Hi Maria425

Welcome! It is nice to hear that the board showed compassion for whatever your situations is. However , just with experience , I caution you to remember they are here to protect the pueblo not the nurses. I once thought my caseworker was compassionate and understanding but she totally wasn't. Sounds like your doing everything you need to do. That's awesome!!!!!!
