Swedish Nurse in The US

World Registration

Hello fellow nurses / nurse students!

I'm a 20 year old male nurse student at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm-Sweden. I'm a very engaged student at Karolinska. I'm in the board of Karolinska - helping the professors develop the nurse programme in Sweden by being their Eyes and ears in all classes. I'm also in the section of nurses in Stockholm - where we discuss what we want included in the programme. Also I work extra as a nurse assistant at a nursing home.

I lived in America 2 years ago and took some classes at a Community college ( it was all I could afford). I have no relatives or connection to America at all. However I want to move there and work. I want to make an international carrier as a nurse specialized in anesthesiology and critical caring.

I study in Sweden because the education here is free, and I get licensed all over Europe, which gives me a larger amount of countries to start work in right away.

Now to my question. When I graduate, is there SOMEHOW I can get a license and start working in the US? Is there someone who has experienced working with a Swede, or is there a swede here that has immigrated to America? la9MFCKoIaKIlaHjVuttgx238A8l+oISTPknrAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC

Is it hard to get a job as a nurse in the US?

I can specialize in Sweden and getting 100% paid for it (since Sweden is lacking tons of nurses right now) and then its 1 year to be a RN with an anesthesiology specialization - Is it worth it or should you study that in America instead?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Once you graduate you apply to the state you plan on living and working in. California is the exception as a US SSN is required before they will accept application. Once you are registered and successful in meeting requirements for International Trained Nurse you then need to find a employer willing to sponsor you for immigrant visa. Gaining experience will be an advantage whilst waiting

Alright! But is it impossible to find employers willing to sponsor it? Or has it happened before? And I have been working as an Au Pair earlier in the Us so I do have an SSN - does that still work then :) ?

If you have a US SSN then that helps. Employers..... Well a lot depends on where you want to live, CA and NY are places probably over saturated with nurses so employers may not want to sponsor... Difficult to say but all you can do is once graduated contact hospitals in the areas you want to live in and ask them
